Today, Omega debuted two new precious metal 18K Moonshine Gold Speedmaster Moonwatch chronographs.

First off, Moonshine gold is a trademarked 18K yellow gold alloy (created by Omega in 2019) that has a paler hue than traditional yellow gold and that has a higher resistance to fading of the color and luster over time.

Omega has developed two new versions of the Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch, in the same size 42 mm x 13.18 mm (47.5 mm lug-to-lug) case as the Moonwatches that were released in 2021 — both presented in Omega’s specially developed premium 18K yellow gold alloy.

One features an on-trend dark green (PVD treated) dial with a sunburst pattern and applied 18K Moonshine gold indices and hands, paired with either a matching solid 18K gold bracelet or a green alligator leather strap. The other features an 18K Moonshine Gold dial with applied diamond polished 18K Moonshine gold with black PVD treated indices and hands, paired with either a matching solid 18K gold bracelet or a black rubber strap.

Underneath the dial is Omega’s Master Chronometer Co-Axial caliber 3861 chronograph movement which runs at 3Hz and has a 50-hour power reserve. This is the latest version of Omega’s in-house caliber 3861 — which was first introduced during the unveiling of the new Moonwatch in January 2021.

What’s all-new for the regular production 2022 Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Moonshine Gold variations, is that they have ceramic bezel inserts, with Omega’s Ceragold tachymeter scale with a “Dot Over Ninety.”

Omega expands the Speedmaster Moonwatch collection with new offerings in ‘Moonshine’ gold. The Speedmaster Moonwatch is now available in all three of Omega’s proprietary 18k gold alloys; Canopus, Sedna, and Moonshine gold.
The Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch Moonshine Gold is new for 2022, but it is not the first time this material is used for the Moonwatch. It was first seen on the 2019 Apollo 11 50th Anniversary. This coincidentally was one of the first watches to use the updated caliber 3861. Moonshine Gold is a proprietary alloy that offers a light yellow colour. It is also highly resistant to fading over time. In addition to gold, it includes silver, copper and palladium for colour and stability. The tachymeter insert is made of ceramic, and sapphire crystals are fitted both front and back.
For 2022, the Omega Speedmaster Moonshine Gold is available with two different dials. The first is a green PVD dial with sunburst finish, whilst the second is crafted from Moonshine gold and has blackened sub dials. Both can be fitted with a matching Moonshine Gold bracelet. Alternatively, there’s the option of an alligator strap for the green dial, or a rubber strap for the gold dial.
