Long-time brand ambassador and Bollywood superstar Hrithik Roshan joins forces with Rado to create his own special edition timepiece. He chooses the vintage-inspired Captain Cook model as his foundation, opting for a gorgeous emerald green dial, matching green ceramic bezel and an automatic winding movement within. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Rado Captain Cook Automatic Hrithik Roshan Special Edition watch…

It’s news to no one that the Rado Captain Cook collection is a favourite of ours here at Horologii. The collection was first launched exactly sixty years ago, taking its name from British navigator and explorer James Cook and fulfilling the needs of adventurous divers and navigators. The design was recognizable for its inward-sloping dive bezel, rice of beads bracelet and domed crystal glass, traits that remain essential in the modern-day Rado Captain Cook watch collection. Since the design’s revival in 2017, we have witnessed the Captain Cook watch interpreted in a variety of ways, in full-blown ceramic, with skeletonised dials and of course in classic stainless steel just like that of the new Rado Captain Cook Automatic Hrithik Roshan Special Edition watch.
Like previous steel Captain Cook references, the new Rado Captain Cook Automatic Hrithik Roshan Special Edition watch elects a 42mm stainless steel case with a height of 12.3mm and a lug to lug distance of 49mm. The overall size is pleasant on the wrist and delivers a modern aesthetic helped by sharp lines, faceted lugs and three-row link polished stainless steel bracelet. The bracelet is closed by a butterfly deployment clasp and comes with quick release end links so swapping it out for another strap is effortless.
On top, the case presents a bold green ceramic bezel, a material many of you will know is a speciality of Rado. It is incredibly scratch resistant, lightweight and offers a gorgeous glossy finish. As a diver’s watch, the bezel is unidirectional with 120 clicks and is adorned with a 60 minute scale. The Rado Captain Cook Automatic Hrithik Roshan watch also elects a screw down case back and a screw in knurled crown at 3 o’clock, two features responsible for ensuring the water resistant rating of 300 metres.

Placed beneath box-shaped sapphire crystal glass, the Rado Captain Cook Automatic Hrithik Roshan Special Edition nominates a gorgeous emerald green dial to match the shade on the bezel. Its layout is exactly like that of previous Captain Cook editions with a sunray brushed finish, a large arrow tipped hour hand, a sword-shaped minutes hand and applied indexes. The seconds hand is also arrow-tipped and like the rest of the hardware is generously treated to glow in the dark Superluminova. At the 12 o’clock position, one of Rado’s most distinctive features can be found, the free-swinging anchor logo with spins with every movement of the wrist. There’s also a date window at 3 o’clock with red printing and the ‘Captain Cook’ text in vintage typeface at 6 o’clock.
On the mechanical side, the Rado Captain Cook Automatic Hrithik Roshan Special Edition watch opts for the Swiss made C07.611 self-winding movement. It takes much of its spec from the legendary Powermatic 80 movement series from Swatch including an impressive 80 hour power reserve and 21,600bph frequency. The 25-jewelled movement is hidden from view due to the screw down case back, but instead we’re greeted to a handsome engraving of three sea horses.

As part of a special edition run, the Rado Captain Cook Automatic Hrithik Roshan watch is presented in an exclusive brown leather travel pouch etched with the signature of Hrithik Roshan himself. Alongside the steel bracelet, you’ll also find two additional straps included in the pouch such as a deep green leather band and a nylon strap. Both close by traditional stainless steel pin buckles.
